چکیده

Adult Wistar rats were treated with unilateral intrastriatal injection of quinolinic acid (QA) in one single dose of 150 nM/L. The other two group of animals were pretreated with nerve growth factor (NGF) and fibroblast growth factor (FGF), respectively. Control group was treated with 0.154 mmol/L saline solution likewise. Activity of cytochrome c oxidase (COX) was decreased in the basal forebrain of neurotrophins (NTF)-treated animals. Striatal lesions led to the loss of tonic inhibitory inputs to the globus pallidus with consequent increase changes due to transsynaptic degeneration in the basal forebrain, will be also less extensive in the NTF-treated animals.

Udk 619:616.831-003.8 Nerve Growth Factor Protects Cholinergic Neurons against Quinolinic Acid-induced Excitotoxicity in Wistar Rats

The etiology of neuronal death in neurodegenerative diseases, including Huntington's disease (HD) is still unknown. There could be a complex interplay between altered energy metabolism, excitotoxicity and oxidative stress. Excitotoxic striatal lesions induced by quinolinic acid (QA), were used to test for the neuroprotective actions of nerve growth factor (NGF) on striatal cholinergic and GABAe...

Effects of nerve and fibroblast growth factors on the production of nitric oxide in experimental model of Huntington's disease.

The role of nitric oxide (NO) in neurological diseases represents one of the most studied, yet controversial subjects in physiology. The aim was to examine the effects of intrastriatal injection neurotrophins (nerve growth factors-NGF, fibroblast growth factors-FGF) in order to investigate the possible involvement of NO in quinolinic acid (QA) induced striatal toxicity in the rat model of Hunti...

Fibroblast Growth Factor-1 vs. Fibroblast Growth Factor-2 in Ischemic Skin Flap Survival in a Rat Animal Model

BACKGROUND One of the main challenges in skin flap surgery is tissue ischemia and following necrosis. The present study compares the effects of fibroblast growth factors 1 and 2 on increasing cutaneous vasculature, improving ischemia, and preventing distal necrosis in ischemic skin flaps in rat model. METHODS Thirty rats were allocated into 3 groups (n=10) and 2×8 cm dorsal rando...

Nerve growth factor receptor is associated with cholinergic neurons of the basal forebrain but not the pontomesencephalon.

Sequential immunohistochemical demonstration of nerve growth factor receptor and cholinergic acetyltransferase on the same tissue section in the rat revealed that approximately 92% of all cholinergic neurons in the basal forebrain possessed that receptor. Only 0.9% of the neurons demonstrating nerve growth factor receptor in the basal nuclear complex lacked the cholinergic synthetic enzyme, and...

Effects of Different Psychotropic Agents on the Central Nerve Growth Factor Protein

Objective(s) Psychotropic medications produce their effects, in part, through increasing neurotrophin levels in the brain. Since studies concerning nerve growth factor (NGF) analysis have been limited in scope, in the current experiments we investigated the effects of diverse psychotropic agents on NGF protein levels in various brain regions of rat. Materials and Methods Male Wistar rats rec...
